Make Art 4 Mutual Aid

Crush/Repeat joined South King County & Eastside Mutual Aid in November 2020 to help raise funds to support community members directly affected by the pandemic. SKC+E Mutual Aid is a collective of neighbors supporting one another through community organizing since early March. They work to share resources, support survivors in safety planning, help pay bills, form fundraisers and provide basic needs including the free delivery of groceries and other essential items.

Together we raised $10,220 for South King County and Eastside Mutual Aid! A tremendous thank you to all of the artists who sold work, to the community who entered raffles and bought artwork, and to everyone in our network who shared about #MakeArt4MutualAid and reposted work made by fellow artists. You blew us away with your support and dedication to community care.

Cupcake

Hi, I'm Cupcake! I'm a queer, mixed media Artist, Writer, Apothecarist, Activist and lover of all things CAKE. I've been leaving my trail of Cakes (often with positive or uplifting messages) through out Seattle since 2015 but found my passion for compassion and activism breaking into my art after spending nearly 2 years unhoused in Seattle with my then toddlers. It was in those moments my art shifted more to reflect the community around me & bring attention to the things, places and issues that others refused to see. Community is what saved us, what kept me strong for my babies and what I believe is the answer to almost all of our problems. This has become the common theme and message in almost all of my art. That and "It's Called a Trash Can, not a Trash CAN'T!" I am poor and refuse to let that stop me from creating. Which is why all materials I create with are repurposed, recycled, foraged for or "Manifested". I create with what I have and try to encourage others to do the same. Poverty or lack of resource should NEVER be a reason for not creating!

jona-shoe-2.JPG

Jona Shoe

Jona (they/them) is a white queer non-binary/trans illustrator living in Duwamish Territory. Jovita_mercado_1.jpg

Jovita Mercado

I am a chicana and all these sticker designs are a visual representation of my cultural identity. The first sticker design is of a chile. Titled ,"Picoso pero Sabroso", which means spicy but delicious. This is a line that Chavela Vargas' sang in the song "La Llorona". This sticker is inspired by her unapologetic nature.  She is a mexican icon. During the 1950s, she pushed societal boundaries. She dressed in men's clothing and sang songs that were only intended for men to sing. There were also rumors that she had a love affair with Frida Kahlo. Chavela Vargas' story is inspiring and defiant for a young Chicana like myself.

Price: $4.50 per sticker (donating 25% percent of my earnings)

Jules-Inkwell.jpg

J. V. Inkwell

J.V. is an artist currently living on Coast Salish land in Snohomish. They pull the colors and content of their paintings from the world around them and blend them with the magical realm. Comfortably working with a wide range of media; acrylic, oil, watercolor, pen, pencil, canvas, board, paper, and found materials.

Inspired by synesthesia, they take the colors and movement of music, nature, and magic to create unpredictable emotional visual statements. The body, heart, mind and spirit become entangled in each piece. From the calm uneasiness of a tree against the fading light to the organic violence and chaos of paint dropped and thrown across a canvas. Biology and divination coexist within the world that Inkwell has brought to life.

Stickers are $5 each (100% will be going to the mutual aid) and I will donate up to $100 from original art sales.

You can purchase via Etsy!

Orion.jpg

Orion B.

This gouache & colored pencil piece was inspired by photos of folks at various protests wielding homemade shields/protests signs; it also incorporates a quote from an anonymous pamphlet called Queers Read This that was distributed at a 1990 NYC Pride march and referenced lack of action in response to the AIDS crisis. I think the quote has a lot of resonance this year as people join together to fight racist and violent systems of policing, engage in local mutual aid efforts to support our neighbors, and more. Love is our best defense. I'm raffling this piece for $5 per entry. You can donate can donate to SKC+E Mutual Aid on any of these platforms for your raffle entry:

Virginia_Easthope.jpeg

Virginia (Gini) Easthope

Virginia (she/her, Scorpio :) is a Seattle-based visual artist centered primarily illustration, animation, and printmaking. My work usually speaks to the anthropomorphic nature of emotion and earth. I tend to lean a little spooky. As for the print set - they are linoleum block prints chronicling my first real experience with grief. They are printed black ink on white paper, in small black plastic/glass frames.

These prints are adaptions of my first drawings from the garden. Block printing has challenged me with new intentionality, perspective, and process. It has challenged me grow my skillset and to embrace the chaos and darkness of my anxiety with a steadier hand.

4 small block prints: $80 for the set or $20 each.
100% of the proceeds will be going to SKC+E Mutual Aid.

Contact me to purchase via Instagram @gini.art or through my portfolio website.
